Your Cat or Dog can catch worms from anywhere, inside or outside, as the tiny eggs can be picked up and eaten by your pet. For example
Soil, grass and sand, such as in parks and gardens, or even childrens play areas, they can pick them up whilst scavengiing or hunting, from eating raw meat, they can even catch them from fleas and eating faeces, which believe me, I have seen dogs do, and its not plesant, trying to fish it out of their mouths. Puppies and Kittens can be infected from their mother and all dogs and cats are at risk of infection.
Cats and Dog can appear healthy even if they have a worm infection, worm eggs are very small and not easily visible in your pets faeces. Lack of energy can be another symptom or a pot bellied apperance, breathing difficulties is also possible and any general changes in behaviour.
All dogs and cats are at risk of roundworm infection, even indoor cats as eggs can be carried in on your shoes. They are a pinky white colour and are a few cm’s long, they live in your pets intestines.
Whipworm is a canine worm and rarer than the other types, it has increased risk of transmission in kennels. Whipworms are so named because the head attaches to the wall of your dogs gut leaving the tail end to swoop about like a whip.
